In July of 1958, a small group of people met at Glean Maura Farm in Ashland and formed the Tanheath Hunt Club.  ‘Tanheath’ is derived from ‘Tangle’, a well-bred bitch, and ‘Heathen’, a good hound from a nice neighborhood.

Incorporated in 1959 the Hunt Club was granted colors in 1960 by the National Beagle Club and hunted a Beagle pack until 1966.

Eventually our fields grew too large for the little beagles to work in front of so the Club switched to harriers, and then in the early seventies to foxhounds.

Tanheath now hunts a pack of Penn-Marydels. A slower more methodical hunting type bred in the Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware region. This hound is known for its  great scenting abilities and melodious voice.

The Tanheath Hunt became recognized with the Masters of Foxhounds Association of America in 1984.
